2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specs

More Rigid Front Fork

A 41 mm telescopic fork with high stiffness provides superior suspension action. The suspension offers the plushness of a large-displacement bike, the front wheel feels incredibly grounded, and direction changes are smooth (even when the bike is pretty straight, which helps navigate traffic jams).

Sugomi Styling

The new 2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle combines the large-volume design of the Z300 with the crisp, aggressive flair of the Z650 to create an assertive, elegant, and masculine impression. Its athletic, muscular bodywork creates a fluid form that hovers above the engine, reflecting enhanced performance.

Like other Z series models, the Kawasaki Supernaked is easily recognizable by its profile thanks to its Sugumi design elements, including a high tail, low head, and crouching stance.

Compact Multifunction Instrumentation

The 2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle and Z650 share the same stacked instrument cluster. The analog-style tachometer is easy to read and has a multifunction LCD screen on top and a gear position indicator in the center.

Significantly Lower Weight

The 2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle is the lightest twin-cylinder vehicle in its class with a curb mass of just 167kg, 3kg less than the Z300, thanks to the new engine and frame’s lightweight design and extreme weight-saving measures.

Compact, Lightweight & Efficient

Because the engine was designed from the ground up, its configuration could be optimized for weight, size, and performance. The new engine dimensions are similar to those of 2013 to 2018 Z250. Despite high displacement, many weight loss initiatives maintain minimal weight loss. Eliminating redundant elements from the design and redesigning the layout allows for a narrower engine and cooling system with less external pipework.

Lightweight Trellis Frame

The Ninja H2 and 2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle have comparable trellis frame designs. Kawasaki’s latest dynamic stiffness analysis guaranteed ideal stiffness with minimal weight. The engine is mounted as a compression member and held in place. The bike’s low curb mass is mainly due to the revolutionary frame design.

Light, Predictable Handling

Engine positioning can be optimized as both the frame and engine are new. Light, natural handling is provided by the new chassis’ short wheelbase/long swingarm design and sharp caster angle. The bike’s light weight also makes handling and maneuvering easier when not in use.

Easy Reach to the Ground

The compact shape of the seat (30 mm narrow) and the rear of the engine give riders an unobstructed path for their feet to touch the ground, even though the seat height is 785 mm (when radial tires are fitted).

Large-Diameter Front Brake Disc

With a diameter of æ310 mm, the same as the Z1000, the Z400/250’s semi-floating front disc provides reliable stopping power. Brake contact is influenced by brake line dimensions and materials, which are carefully selected. A stiffer new front brake master cylinder helps prevent inefficient (waste) strokes, which allows control. All models come with ABS and the latest, lightest, and most compact Nissin ABS unit.

Ergonomics for Active Control

Its rider-friendly nature is attributed to the comfortable rider triangle’s ability to accommodate various riding sizes and scenarios. The extra width of the handlebars and the somewhat upright riding position make a dynamic, sporty ride possible, putting the rider in the best position for active control.

New Assist & Slipper Clutch

A more compact clutch (æ139 mm >> æ125 mm) with less rigid operating plates provides a lighter lever pull. Control is made more accessible by the more comprehensive engagement range of the new clutch, which moves well with an exceptionally light feel on the lever.

Powerful, Rider-Friendly Parallel Twin

With a displacement of 399 cm3, the new engine outperforms its predecessor with a notable gain of 33.4 kW (+4.4 kW compared to the 2018 Z300). A more extensive airbox offering improved intake performance with a new downdraft intake is mainly responsible for the high performance.

The rider-friendly nature complements the superior performance. Both novice and expert riders can easily handle the throttle thanks to smooth throttle response and plenty of low-end torque.

LED Headlamp

The newly designed LED headlamp adds to the Z400’s cutting appearance, is highly visible, significantly increases brightness, and illuminates a wider area.

Parallel Twin Engine

With a rider-friendly nature, smooth response, and plenty of low-end torque, the engine—adapted directly from its Ninja 400 counterpart—pleases many riders. The downdraft intake tract increases cylinder filling efficiency and power, especially at high rpm, by giving intake air a shorter, straighter path into the cylinder.

Additionally, the downdraft intake makes it possible to create a seat with easy access to the ground by removing the space below it. A larger airbox improves intake efficiency for more power. The airbox design makes the engine’s intake tone audible to the rider during acceleration. By eliminating torque dips, the uneven height of the intake funnels contributes to a smoother throttle response.

The oval shape of the 32mm throttle valves, which causes them to open quickly on initial movement, helps contribute to quick throttle response. Combustion efficiency and linear throttle response are enhanced by fine atomizing injectors positioned close to the throttle valves, enabling them to spray fuel directly onto them.

Performance is influenced by 23.5mm exhaust and 27.7mm intake valves at all engine rpm. The use of forged camshafts facilitates weight reduction of displacement machines. The lightweight piston design is made possible by oil jets, which cool the underside of the piston.

The open deck design of the aluminum die-cast cylinders allows for more excellent heat dissipation and lighter engine weight. A sleeveless cylinder that uses a plated bore. A 20-degree forward tilt on the cylinder helps reduce the overall height of the engine.

Thanks to the lightweight flywheel, the engine can rev quickly, providing a direct power feel and crisp response. For a more comfortable ride, a machined balance shaft reduces engine vibration. Weight savings are achieved through the exhaust system’s ability to follow a more straight line thanks to the oil pan design. Large-diameter header pipes improve performance in all rpm ranges. The cooling system design minimizes the amount and weight of the external coolant pipe.

When the fan is turned on, such as when riding in heavy traffic, the new radiator fan cover introduces hot air to the sides and away from the rider, increasing comfort. To further improve comfort, it also keeps the frame, tank, and other areas where the rider comes in contact with cold.

Transmission/Clutch

The operating plates of the assist and sleeper clutch (KP), which are small in size, feel very light when pulling the lever. When the range of engagement is extensive, it is easier to control. To use shorter and lighter clutch springs for a lighter feel on the lever, the clutch is pressed together during acceleration (assist function) using the rotational forces of the new clutch hub and pressure plate.

The slipper function allows clutch slippage in high back-torque situations, such as downshifting in a meager gear, helping prevent stalling from rear wheel hop and engine lockup. Close gear ratios facilitate smooth shifting.

Positive Neutral Finder(KP)

To immediately select neutral, move the shift pedal up from first gear when stopped. Exclusive to Kawasaki.

Lightweight Trellis Frame

The trellis frame design is similar to the Ninja H2. Because Kawasaki’s sophisticated dynamic stiffness analysis ensured maximum stiffness with minimum weight, the frame contributes significantly to the bike’s overall low curb mass. The short wheelbase and long swingarm of the supersport-style chassis, combined with a sharp steering angle, allow light and agile handling.

Suspension

The square tube swingarm structure reduces weight by providing stiffness without unnecessary gusseting. Uni-Trak® rear suspension shock settings and linkage ratios enhance ride quality. The 41mm fork improves the front wheel-mounted feel by providing stiffness and smooth suspension motion.

Brakes

A balanced actuation dual-piston caliper grips a large 310mm semi-floating petal front disc. The front brake disc is the same size as the Ninja ZX-14R, making it the largest in the class. A 220 mm rear petal disc is clamped by a dual-piston caliper behind a large piston. Nissan’s latest compact ABS control unit is integrated into the ABS. A stiffer front brake master cylinder helps reduce idle stroke for a more positive feel.

Wheels/Tires

These stylish 5-spoke wheels with a star pattern resemble those of the Ninja 650. They help reduce weight and improve handling by improving cornering performance due to their improved lateral stiffness. Radial tires are lighter, have excellent traction, and improve handling agility and comfort while riding.

Ergonomics

A comfortable riding position can accommodate different riding sizes and conditions. Features include a broad, upright handlebar, a sporty yet forward footpeg position that allows the rider to easily control the bike while providing plenty of comfort, and a relatively upright riding position. The seat cushion is thick, uses low-rebound urethane for added comfort, and is relatively narrow, making it easier for riders’ feet to reach the ground.

Excellent instrumentation

The negative display on the LCD screen gives 2023 Kawasaki Z400 ABS Street Sports Motorcycle a sleek, contemporary look. The gear position indicator helps with confident and accurate shifting. The economic riding indicator indicates proper fuel consumption to help riders maximize fuel mileage; the odometer, dual trip meter, remaining fuel range, current and average fuel consumption, and coolant Temperature are some display functions in addition to the clock and other functions.
