We have four distinct Africa Twin models available for 2022. For dedicated off-road fans, our base Africa Twin, which comes with either a six-speed manual gearbox or our optional DCT, is a fantastic alternative. Check out the Honda 2022 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES Motorcycle for long-distance adventure touring: They provide unique features including tubeless tires, heated grips, an electronically controlled suspension, an adjustable windshield, a bigger fuel tank, and more. They may also be purchased with a manual or DCT transmission. Additionally, this year all of our Africa Twin models are equipped with Android Auto, enhanced control capabilities, and an irresistible new color option. These days, adventure bikes are pretty popular, and it is simple to see why. You are permitted to bike almost everywhere. Additionally, its upright sitting and comfortable riding posture allow you to log kilometers easily. They must combine cutting-edge touring and riding technology with complete dependability, which is a problem.
Honda 2022 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES Motorcycle – Features and Specs
1084cc Twin-Cylinder Engine
One of the most significant engines ever found on an adventure bike is in the CRF1100L Africa Twin. Narrow and capable of producing torque from idle to redline, the parallel-twin engine is built. You’ll drive quickly on the broad road and have greater low-end oomph.
Parallel-Twin Engine Layout
The parallel-twin engine configuration of the Africa Twin shortens the motorcycle front to rear. As a result, the front wheel may be moved closer to the engine, decreasing the wheelbase and enhancing the bike’s maneuverability on and off the road.
Twin Intakes
The Africa Twin has two vertical filtering components and a distinctive twin air-intake design. Even while operating for extended periods in dusty circumstances, the engine can produce exceptional performance thanks to all that clean air.
Unicam Engine Design
The Africa Twin’s tiny cylinder head and ideal engine placement are made possible by Honda’s proprietary Unicam® engine architecture. The complete cylinder-head design, though, gives the engine better performance as well. The finest of both worlds is here!
Cruise Control
One of the worst-kept motorcycle industry secrets is that Honda Africa Twins make excellent long-distance touring motorcycles. Therefore, much like our Gold Wings, our Africa Twin models come with cruise control. Your next adventure begins a few hundred miles away. No issue!
270-Degree-Phase Crank
Twins often use a 180-degree crank. A distinctive power delivery that is simple to regulate is obtained by phasing the Africa Twins at 270 degrees, particularly in terrain where traction is challenging.
Selectable ABS
Two ABS modes—on-road and off-road—are available in our Africa Twin vehicles. For riding in the mud, a third mode completely disables the rear ABS.
Cornering Anti-Lock Brakes
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) on the Africa Twin is equipped as standard with a 6-axis IMU; it detects lean and adjusts the brakes appropriately.
Dry-Sump Engine
A dry-sump engine architecture is the only option for a giant adventure bike like the Africa Twin. The more compact sump improves ground clearance and reverses a traditional wet sump’s susceptibility.
Lightweight Lithium-Ion Battery
Because conventional batteries are notoriously cumbersome, we equipped the Africa Twin with an advanced, light lithium-ion battery. Its shelf life is 1.6 times greater than a comparable lead-acid battery, and it keeps a charge almost four times longer. And it’s much lighter.
Long-Travel Front Suspension
The Africa Twin is an actual adventure bike, not simply one that looks like one. Look at its front suspension’s extensive travel for Exhibit A. With its enormous 45mm tubes and 9.1 inches of travel, the inverted Showa fork has the most excellent front-end travel in the 1000cc off-road class. It is entirely adjustable.
Electronically Controlled Suspension
The electrically regulated suspension of the Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES and Adventure Sports ES DCT is controlled by SHOWA EERA® (Electrically Equipped Ride Adjustment). Five suspension damper settings are available: harsh, medium, soft, off-road, and a user-customizable preset. Additionally, it is simple to swap between them, allowing you to choose one for the highway and another when the going becomes more difficult.
Electric Preload Adjuster
It’s simple to modify the preload of your shock. You may go alone, alone with baggage, two-up, or two-up with luggage. Forget about removing some difficult-to-access shock collar; everything is done electronically.
Four-Piston Calipers
The Africa Twin has two four-piston brake calipers up front for strong stopping ability. They are also made firmer by the radial-mount construction, which improves brake feel and control.
43-Degree Steering Lock
The Africa Twin offers outstanding handling on narrow terrain thanks to its 43 degrees of steering lock on both the left and right. The Africa Twin seems so much more agile than many of the other larger adventure bikes available today because of this, among other things.
Refined Swingarm
The swing arm of the Africa Twin is lightweight and durable because it incorporates engineering from our CRF450R motocrosser.
Hollow Axle Shafts
Large-diameter hollow steel axles are used front and back on the Africa Twin. They are very sturdy, resilient, and light at the same time—a combination that perfectly sums up this bike.
Honda Selectable Torque Control
Throttle-by-wire technology on the Africa Twin enables us to provide Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). For the given circumstances, you may choose precisely the kind of power supply you desire. Seven settings are available for Honda Selectable Torque Control to accommodate various driving situations, including tarmac, fast, slick fire roads, and challenging single-track. You may also make it inactive. An excellent feature becomes even better in 2022 thanks to new engine settings.
Wheelie Control
You may choose one of three wheelie control settings by adjusting the front and rear wheel-speed sensors with the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). There is also an “off” setting, in which case you control the wheelie.
Riding Modes
Six riding modes are available on models with manual transmissions and DCTs: Tour, Urban, Gravel, Off-Road, User 1 and User 2. The latter two allow you to adjust the system to your preferences.
Rear Suspension
The rear suspension on the Africa Twin’s rising-rate Pro-Link® system is completely adjustable and provides 8.7 inches of rear-wheel travel with a 220mm stroke. Even better, there is a unique remote preload adjustment that you can use to account for variable weights like a passenger or fully loaded panniers by simply turning a handy knob.
Tires And Wheels
Since spoked wheels can better withstand the bumps and bruises of off-road riding, real adventure bikes utilize them. All Africa Twin models have a front tire that is 21 inches and a rear tire that measures 18 inches for improved performance, particularly when going off-road.
Tubeless Tires
On our Adventure Sports ES models, standard. There is a wide variety of adventure-bike rubber available now, and tubeless tires run cooler. Obtain a flat? Also much simpler are flat tire fixes.
Apple Car Playâ„¢ and Android Autoâ„¢
Your compatible iPhone® or Android phone may be smoothly integrated into your new Africa Twin using Apple CarPlayTM or Android AutoTM, respectively. You can access maps, music, and other services using your devices. While onboard, you’ll have access to the weather, songs, and phone numbers. You can converse more conveniently than ever thanks to wireless headphones that are Bluetooth® compatible. The most significant part is that your bike’s technology and convenience stay cutting-edge as additional applications become available daily.
TFT Touchscreen Display
A 6.5-inch touch-panel LCD multi-information dash display is available on the Africa Twins. Depending on how much information you wish to view at once, you may also select between three displays. We improved the screen for 2022 to make it simpler to read in a range of riding circumstances.
Six-Speed Manual Transmission
The Africa Twin has a standard six-speed manual transmission with a clutch lever on the handlebar. It is a tried-and-true, durable design that is also somewhat lighter. Available on versions like the Africa Twin and Africa Twin ES
Optional Aluminum Luggage
One of your favorite extras will undoubtedly be our optional three-piece hard luggage. The top compartment of all three bags is large enough to fit a full-face helmet, and they all have weather-resistant linings. Additionally, the locking key for all three boxes is the same.
Large Fuel Tanks
Our Africa Twin and Africa Twin DCT have fuel tanks with a capacity of 18.8 liters (5.0 gallons). In comparison, the two Adventure Sports ES models have fuel tanks with 24 liters (6.3 gallons), sufficient for extensive expeditions.
Tall Handlebar
By installing a tall handlebar, you may widen the cockpit and create a more comfortable rider’s triangle for extended periods on the saddle.
Tapered Aluminum Handlebar
The aluminum handlebar is another example of adding high-quality equipment wherever possible to the Africa Twin since it is lighter than a steel one. The design is optimized for the best flex and stiffness, tapering from a narrower diameter beneath your grips to a more significant part at the top clamp.
Narrow Seat
We took extra care to maintain the tiny seat of the Africa Twin. It facilitates maneuvering when riding the bike and simplifies putting one foot down at stoplights or in parking lots.
Narrow Rear Subframe
Here are two things: The aluminum subframe is firstly detachable for easier maintenance and repairs. Second, we made it 40mm narrower than our initial plan. It makes the bike seem wider and nimbler overall, which is helpful on rugged terrain.
