The family of roadsters KTM Duke does not cease increasing and this time the Austrian manufacturer reveals us a KTM 390 Duke which is initially intended to the beginners who do not want for as much, to be bored with motor bike… With 44 horses for 139 kg dry and a quite sporting frame, the daily ways should not generate the melancholy on this KTM Duke 390.
Duke still made the small ones. After the 690, 125, the 200 Cm3, here is that KTM proposes new minis to us duchess out of bottle of 390 Cm3, or 373.2 Cm3 more exactly. We had evoked the probable arrival of this motor bike and force is to note that we had not fallen far…
With this new motor bike, KTM continues its work of extension of its range by bottom, in order to continue its opening near the general public. With KTM Duke 125 and 200 Cm3, KTM tries to allure the very young beginners. With KTM Duke 390, KTM will make eye this time at the holders of the new motorbike license European A2 or with those which have more experiment and do not wish to turn to one 600 Cm3 more and too expensive with the purchase.
Thus, the KTM 390 Duke takes again the broad outlines technique of the models 125.200 even 690 of the same name. The one-cylinder one cooled by water has however an electronic injection Bosch (Keihin on the 690).
The KTM 390 Duke is also less complex at the driving level, giving up the clutch with limited slip or the electronic accelerator. The engine of Duke 390 technically remains nearer to models 125 and 200 Cm3 that of the 690 Cm3. Side performances, the KTM 390 Duke delivers 44 horses with 9,500 tr/min for a couple of 3.5 daN.m with 7,250 tr/min. The modes reached are rather high, but one had to expect it on behalf of one-cylinder for sporting vocation.
44 horses, short footing and ABS
The part cycles rest close to the KTM Duke 125 and 200 Cm3. The framework painted out of orange takes again the drawing of it, but KTM announces to have reinforced it to adapt it to the higher performances of the KTM Duke 390 2013. The back loop remains faithful to steel, contrary to the 690 aluminum Duke and his loop. The coasts of geometry remain close to other Duke, and the footing is always very short: 1,367 mm on KTM Duke 390 2013. The braking, always entrusted to a single disc of brake by wheel, adopts ABS. It is always about a unit Bosch to double channels, but he shows himself less complex than the system Bosch M9+ of Duke 690. Obviously KTM having sought to limit the manufacturing costs.
With a height of saddle of 800 mm and a dry weight of 139 kg, the KTM Duke 390 2013 should not pose problem with the small gauges. As for its maximum power lower than 35 kw, it corresponds to the regulation of the new A2 license. What makes of KTM Duke 390 a highly strategic motor bike for KTM?
