The Africa Twin receives a significant update for 2024, building on its reputation as an agile and capable adventure motorcycle while adding greater low-end torque, enhanced comfort and advanced electronic suspension technology. It remains true to its off-road-focused character, but refinements such as a larger adjustable windscreen, tubeless tyres and the availability of Electronic Suspension on the 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike further broaden its appeal for long-distance and mixed-surface riding.
More than three decades have passed since the original Honda XRV650 Africa Twin first appeared in Europe. When the Africa Twin name returned in 2016 with the CRF1000L, it was an entirely new machine, yet it carried forward the same spirit that made the original iconic. Central to that appeal was the balance between usable power and low weight, a principle that continues to define the Africa Twin today. Its athletic design, accessible yet engaging engine and comfortable, capable chassis have made it popular with round-the-world travellers, commuters and weekend explorers alike, with over 85,000 units sold since its modern reintroduction.
Over the years, the platform has steadily evolved. In 2018, Throttle By Wire was introduced alongside multiple riding modes, expanded Honda Selectable Torque Control settings and intake and exhaust updates to improve response and sound. The range also grew with the introduction of the Africa Twin Adventure Sports, offering increased wind protection, extended fuel range and longer-travel suspension. A major milestone arrived in 2020 with the introduction of the larger 1,084cc engine, while the CRF1100L Africa Twin was comprehensively redesigned with a sharper rally-inspired look and reduced overall weight. Subsequent updates included smoother DCT operation and standard aluminium rear carrier fitment.

For 2024, the Africa Twin takes another clear step forward. The engine delivers stronger torque, the Dual Clutch Transmission receives further refinements, equipment levels are enhanced, and, crucially, the 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike introduces advanced electronic suspension technology that significantly expands the bike’s adaptability across different riding conditions.
The 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike maintains a strong focus on off-road ability, with the slim stance and feel of a rally machine. Its 1,084cc parallel-twin engine has been revised through intake, combustion and exhaust updates to deliver increased low- and mid-range torque, with peak torque rising by seven per cent to 112 Nm, while maximum power remains unchanged at 75 kW. The result is a stronger drive at everyday engine speeds without sacrificing top-end performance.
Two versions are available. The standard Africa Twin uses conventional fully adjustable Showa suspension, while the 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike features Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (EERA). This system optimises damping across a wide range of conditions and allows the rider to adjust rear spring preload while riding. The 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike is also equipped with heated grips and an ACC charging socket as standard, matching the equipment level of the Adventure Sports variant.
Both versions share the same rugged steel frame and aluminium swingarm derived from the CRF450R, along with unchanged chassis geometry, suspension travel and ground clearance. A key update for 2024 is the switch to tubeless spoked wheels, making puncture repairs simpler and more practical in remote locations. Comfort on long road sections is improved by a newly designed front fairing and a larger, five-stage-adjustable windscreen that allows riders to balance airflow and protection to their preference.

A six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit underpins the Africa Twin’s electronics package, managing seven levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control, three levels of Wheelie Control, Cornering ABS with an off-road mode, Rear Lift Control and cornering-aware DCT operation. Four default riding modes—URBAN, TOUR, GRAVEL and OFF-ROAD—cover most scenarios, while the upright riding position, slim seat profile and high handlebars ensure confidence and control both seated and standing. Dual LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights enhance visibility, cruise control is standard, and a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT touchscreen provides access to system settings, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity.
2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike – Features and Specs
Chassis
For 2024, the new 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike introduces Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment suspension with settings specifically developed for this model. Using the same suspension travel as the standard bike, the system continuously adjusts damping based on vehicle speed, machine attitude measured by the IMU and fork stroke information. The Suspension Control Unit processes this data and alters damping characteristics within just 15 milliseconds.
This adaptability allows the suspension to firm up at higher speeds for stability, reduce dive under heavy braking or prepare the bike for landing during off-road riding. Riders can choose from five suspension modes—MID, HARD, SOFT, OFF-ROAD and USER—making it easy to tailor comfort, control and performance to the terrain at the touch of a button.

For riders who like a traditional setup, the standard Africa Twin retains fully adjustable Showa 45 mm inverted forks and a remote-reservoir rear shock. This setup offers long-travel compliance and consistent damping performance across demanding on-road and off-road conditions, with easy preload adjustment at the rear.
Engine
The 1,084cc, eight-valve parallel-twin engine produces 75 kW at 7,500 rpm, with peak torque increased to 112 Nm at 5,500 rpm. Revised intake tract dimensions, longer internal air trumpets, updated ECU mapping and optimised fuel injection angles all contribute to improved airflow, combustion efficiency and throttle response, particularly at lower engine speeds.
The engine features a semi-dry sump design that keeps overall height low, helping mass centralisation and ground clearance. Internal balancing systems reduce vibration, while the assist and slipper clutch smooths gear changes and enhances stability during aggressive downshifts. The exhaust system has been updated internally to improve drivability and deliver a deeper, more refined exhaust note, especially at higher rpm.

Engine & Chassis Management Electronics
Throttle By Wire and the six-axis IMU form the backbone of the 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike’s electronic control systems. Riders can choose from four power levels and three engine braking settings, while seven levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control allow fine adjustment of rear-wheel slip, including full deactivation for experienced off-road riders.
Wheelie Control offers three selectable levels, ranging from allowing controlled front-wheel lift to fully suppressing wheelies, and can also be switched off entirely. Riding modes can be further customised through adjustments to traction control, wheelie control, and DCT shift patterns, ensuring the 2024 Honda Africa Twin ES DCT Adventure Bike can be precisely tuned to rider skill, terrain, and riding style.
