2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle Review Specs

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle represents the essence of Honda’s mid-capacity four-cylinder performance. Designed to deliver an engaging riding experience from urban streets to winding backroads, the motorcycle combines strong acceleration, agile handling and distinctive Neo Sports Café styling. Its stripped-back design emphasises mechanical simplicity while maintaining the performance expected from a modern sport naked motorcycle.

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle blends contemporary engineering with retro-inspired styling. It offers the smooth, turbine-like power delivery typical of Honda’s inline-four engines, delivering strong performance across the entire rev range. The motorcycle’s design has also been updated with sharper styling cues influenced by the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. New technology features, including a full-colour TFT display and Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity, further enhance the riding experience.

Honda has long pursued innovation in both engineering and design. In 2018, the company introduced the CB1000R, CB300R and CB125R as part of a new generation of naked motorcycles featuring the Neo Sports Café design concept. This design language combined classic café racer inspiration with a modern minimalist approach.

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle joined this lineup in 2019 and quickly gained popularity thanks to its combination of distinctive styling, exhilarating inline-four performance and versatile handling. In 2021, the model received a major upgrade to its front suspension along with additional refinements that improved comfort and practicality.

The 2024 model year is particularly significant for the 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle. In addition to styling updates and improved functionality, the motorcycle is now available with Honda’s innovative E-Clutch system. This technology is designed to simplify gear changes and enhance the riding experience for both beginners and experienced riders.

2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle – Features and Specs

Styling & Equipment

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle continues to evolve the Neo Sports Café design concept with tightly integrated bodywork and a compact, purposeful appearance. The updated styling includes a sharper tail section and a distinctive trapezoidal silhouette, complemented by a short rear overhang and a newly angled LED headlight. All lighting components use LED technology, including a redesigned taillight that integrates neatly into the updated tail unit.

Viewed from the front to the rear, the motorcycle presents a flowing, dynamic profile that emphasises performance. The long fuel tank remains a defining element of the design, with smooth metal surfaces highlighting the mechanical presence of the inline-four engine. The ignition switch is positioned within the tank area.

The handlebars feature a 35-degree steering angle that allows easy manoeuvring at low speeds, making tight turns and U-turns easier to perform.

Both the rider and passenger seats have been redesigned to complement the new tail section while maintaining the same seat height of 810 millimetres. A USB Type-C charging socket is conveniently located beneath the seat.

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle is equipped with a five-inch full-colour TFT display that uses optical bonding technology to improve visibility in bright sunlight. By sealing the gap between the screen and its protective glass with resin, glare is reduced, and display clarity is improved.

The instrument display offers three customizable layouts: Bar, Circle, and Simple. For the first time on the 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle, the display also integrates Honda RoadSync smartphone connectivity.

Honda RoadSync works together with a new backlit four-way toggle switch located on the left handlebar. This system allows riders to access turn-by-turn navigation instructions on the screen and also provides functions such as music playback, call management and voice-based weather updates when used with a Bluetooth-enabled helmet headset.

To activate these features, riders simply download the Honda RoadSync application from the Play Store or App Store and connect their smartphone to the motorcycle.

Chassis

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle uses a steel diamond frame with pressed swingarm pivot plates and twin elliptical spars. The frame’s rigidity is carefully balanced, with greater stiffness around the steering head and slightly more flexibility in the spars. This design helps deliver responsive handling while providing clear feedback to the rider.

The steering geometry includes a rake angle of 25.5 degrees, a trail of 100 millimetres, and a wheelbase of 1,450 millimetres. The motorcycle has a kerb weight of 205 kilograms, rising to 207 kilograms with the E-Clutch system.

Front suspension is provided by Showa 41 millimetre Separate Function Big Piston inverted forks. In this design, one fork leg contains the damping system while the other houses the spring mechanism. This arrangement reduces weight while improving suspension performance and control.

The larger piston design of the forks enhances bump absorption and front-end feel. The suspension can be adjusted through ten levels of spring preload.

At the rear, a single-tube monoshock operates directly on a curved, gravity-die-cast aluminium swingarm. This setup contributes to both improved stability and a distinctive visual design.

Braking performance is provided by four-piston radial-mount front brake callipers acting on dual 310 millimetre floating discs. The rear brake uses a single-piston calliper and a 240 millimetre disc. The braking system is supported by a two-channel ABS system.

The motorcycle uses cast aluminium wheels fitted with 120/70-ZR17 front and 180/55-ZR17 rear tyres.

Engine

The 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle is powered by a 649 cc double overhead camshaft inline-four engine with sixteen valves. For the 2024 model year, the engine remains mechanically unchanged but continues to deliver the distinctive performance characteristics expected from Honda’s four-cylinder designs.

The engine is tuned to deliver strong mid-range performance and a high-revving top end. Maximum power output reaches 70 kilowatts at 12,000 rpm, while peak torque of 63 newton meters is produced at 9,500 rpm. A restricted 35-kilowatt version is also available for riders holding an A2 license.

Direct cam actuation keeps the cylinder head compact. The engine uses a bore and stroke of 67 millimetres by 46 millimetres and a compression ratio of 11.6 to one. Iridium spark plugs are used for improved combustion efficiency.

Air enters the engine through twin intake ducts positioned on either side of the fuel tank. These ducts feed the airbox and produce a distinctive intake sound.

The piston skirts are designed with an asymmetric shape to reduce friction by minimising contact with the cylinder walls. The outer surfaces of the cylinder sleeves include ferrous spines that improve heat transfer while reducing oil consumption and friction.

A silent cam chain with vanadium-coated pins reduces mechanical noise and frictional losses. Internal coolant passages within the engine reduce the need for external hoses by routing coolant directly between the cylinder head and the cylinders.

The engine’s internal layout is compact, with the six-speed gearbox and starter system stacked. The cylinders are inclined forward at 30 degrees to improve mass centralisation.

An assist-and-slipper clutch reduces the effort required during upshifts while helping prevent rear-wheel lock during aggressive downshifting. Honda Selectable Torque Control monitors rear-wheel traction and can be disabled if the rider prefers.

Fuel consumption is rated at 20.4 kilometres per litre in WMTC testing conditions. With a fuel tank capacity of 15.4 litres, the 2024 Honda CB650R Sports Motorcycle offers a potential riding range of more than 300 kilometres.

The engine meets Euro 5 emissions standards. Environmental performance has been improved through revisions to the electronic control unit, updates to the catalytic converter and the addition of an OBD2-2 sensor system.
