2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike Review Specs

The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike was created with the primary objective of thrill riding through the curves, city traffic and between the kerbs of the race tracks, transforming every move into the most fun and memorable moment of the day. An objective was achieved by applying highly advanced technical solutions inspired by the world of the Ducati Panigale for the electronics, engine, and chassis to a new segment of Ducati, creating an adventure motorcycle capable of unforgettable riding emotions.

2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike

The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike is designed and built to achieve ultimate performance on asphalt, and it is equipped with the new Superquadro Mono, which is the most sophisticated and high-performance single-cylinder engine ever made. A record-breaking engine delivering output of 77.5 hp with a maximum rev limit of 10,250 rpm, a new benchmark for the category. This engine is inspired by the twin-cylinder of the 1299 Panigale, which inherits the 116mm bore piston, titanium intake, combustion chamber and new steel exhaust valves and Desmodromic distribution, the solution that Ducati engineers use in MotoGP.

Its latest electronic package, unrivalled in the category, allows rookies to learn to ride like Supermotard riders. ABS Cornering, which for this motorcycle boasts settings specifically developed to handle “backing in” on the track, fully supports rookies.

The same package enables more experienced riders to fully exploit the greater power of the Superquadro Mono engine and the robust and rigorous chassis. The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike combines the accuracy of the front end of Ducati’s sports motorcycle with the typical nimbleness of Supermotards for easy and intuitive riding, like a fun adventure motorcycle should have. This balance was achieved from perfect chassis dimensions that offer a neutral and communicative front end compared to bikes derived from the off-road category, which are typically more understeering.

Added to all this is a design that improves the presence of the new Superquadro Mono engine, combining the new distinctive traits of racing Supermotards like simplicity, aggressiveness, and visual lightness with the cleanliness and authenticity of the finishing details to which Ducatisti are now accustomed.

2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike – Features and Specs

Design

The aesthetics of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike have been defined by explicitly recalling the aesthetic canons of supermotard racing, such as essentiality, authenticity, compactness and aggressiveness, inserting them into a typically Ducati design: complex but clean, linear and refined in its minimalism. The overall result is a tall, slim, light and attractive motorcycle, with superstructures extending slightly downwards to leave the engine visible. It highlights the message of nimbleness, reinforced by the lightness and visual appeal of the five-spoke alloy wheels with a “Y” design.

The Superquadro Mono engine is essential and characterized by a marked vertical development; therefore, it becomes a distinctive component of a minimal design born in search of maximum effectiveness and thrill in riding. The high saddle with a specialist, almost extreme profile, is designed to support both body riding and riding with the leg projected towards the inside of the curve, and offers major slenderness and a less sinuous shape in the apical view.

The flyline is defined by its visual relation between the saddle itself and the shoulder of the tank, which continues and closes on the front mudguard to push the motorcycle forward and focus its dynamism to communicate the fun-bike personality of the Hypermotard 698 Mono motorcycle from the very first moment.

The new slender tail, the high and extended mudguard, the sides that embrace the exhaust and become number plates, the tank itself left partially exposed, are essential and almost basic components in their minimalism, but with attention to couplings and finishes while maintaining simplicity and the lightness typical of a racing world like that of supermotard.

The overall design of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike remains, in fact, always unmistakably linked to typical concepts of Ducati and the famous Hypermotard family. Perfect examples of this can be found in the very compact headlight mask with LED projector and “double C” DRL, which dominates the overall front view and gives the model a technological and distinctive appearance, but also in the tank sides and in the exhaust with double silencer under the tail in which the new rear light is integrated, which recalls the “double C” motif of the DRL light. Both the front and rear direction indicators are LED.

Engine

The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike comes with the Superquadro Mono, Ducati’s latest creation, designed to constitute the performance benchmark among road single-cylinder engines.

Light and compact, the Superquadro Mono was developed to achieve maximum evolution of the Ducati road twin-cylinder, the 1285cc Superquadro of the Panigale 1299. In fact, the bore value of 116mm is identical, which, combined with a stroke of 62.4mm, offers the Superquadro Mono a displacement of 659cc. A significant part of the thermal, i.e. the piston, the overall shape of the combustion chamber, and the desmodromic distribution control is the same as those on the powerful twin-cylinder.

These solutions give the Superquadro Mono a peak power of 77.5hp at 9,750rpm. It can reach 10,250rpm in ratios from second to sixth, values never achieved before with a road single-cylinder. In first gear only, the limiter is set at 10,000rpm. The torque, whose highest value is 6.4 kg • m at 8,000rpm, is distributed in a highly favourable manner, resulting in linear and exploitable delivery from a performance perspective.

Fuel feed is entrusted to a solo oval-section throttle body including an equivalent diameter of 62mm and an under-throttle injector controlled by a ride-by-wire system.

The die-cast engine crankcases integrate the water jacket around the cylinder barrel of aluminium, as on the 1299 Superleggera, rather than steel, with some cooling benefits due to the walls’ thinness. In the 35kW version, reserved for A2 licence holders, the Superquadro Mono delivers 43.5hp @ 6,250 and 5 kg • m @ 5,750rpm of maximum torque.

Chassis

The 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike ensure ultimate compactness and lightness, with 151kg of weight in running order that is distributed 48.5% on the front axle and the remaining 51.5% on the rear axle. A result obtained thanks to high-level technical solutions and components, like the new trellis frame, the functional and minimal double-sided swingarm, lithium ion battery, cast alloy wheels, brake discs including aluminium flanges and the Marzocchi fork with tubes in the same material.

Furthermore, the ergonomics have been studied to offer the rider total control over the motorcycle and greater reactivity. The 807mm wide handlebar is an aluminium element with a variable section, tightened by U-bolts and fixed to the upper steering plate with an essential, specialist look underlined by the black anodization. The U-bolts are designed to be mounted in two different positions, varying the advancement of the handlebars by 8mm. U-bolts and the steering head are forged.

The design of the footpegs is optimized to increase the lean angle and offer peak grip with the racing boots through the removal of the rubber covering, thanks to a specific processing on the edge.

Frame

The frame is a trellis made of steel tubes, including differentiated sections and thicknesses to optimize stiffness and weight (7.2kg) and ensure the robustness necessary to manage the stresses of typical supermotard riding, including frequent landings from wheelies. The powder-coated frame also acts as an upper attachment for the monoshock. The rear sub-frame is removable, and the trellis is made of steel tubes, including a uniform cylindrical section with walls that are 1.6mm thick.

The double-sided swingarm, 572mm long, comprises a single piece of minimal and specialist cast aluminium. It has a straight course that combines lightness (3.9kg) and stiffness. The finish is natural, including mechanical processing of the visible areas. The shock absorber works by interposing progressive off-road-inspired linkages that allow the new suspension travel to be exploited effectively by limiting the bottom-out.

The characteristic measurements show a steering tube inclined by 26.3 degrees and steering plates with an offset of 34mm, for a trail of 109mm and a wheelbase of 1,447mm. The result is a motorcycle whose handling is known for the load transfers during braking and acceleration typical of supermotards, combined with the accuracy and communication present in the DNA of Ducati sports models, thus defining a very high riding quality on the circuit.

Suspensions

The suspensions of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike have been specifically developed to cover an extensive range of uses. The standard calibration has been defined to ensure outstanding road behaviour, ultimate comfort, and adequate support in dynamic riding. The correct support can be obtained for sportier riding and use on the circuit by acting on the hydraulics of the fork and shock absorber.

2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike

The front suspension consists of the new 45mm Marzocchi aluminium upside-down fork, which is fully adjustable and has 215mm of travel. Preload adjustment occurs on both forks, while hydraulic braking has separate functions, with extension on the right tube and compression on the left. Remote adjusters on the fork head speed up calibration. Using aluminium sliders helps maintain the fork’s weight at just 8.1kg.

The brand-new rear monoshock is a Sachs of off-road inspiration. It is also fully adjustable, including hydraulic settings that can be quickly modified thanks to remote adjusters.

The motorcycle’s use and maintenance manual recommends calibrations for comfort-oriented city traffic, sporty road riding, and track use with a passenger on the Road.

Tyres and rims

To reduce unsprung masses, in this case also subject to the gyroscopic effect, the new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike mounts the lightweight five-spoke cast wheels with a “Y” design, the most effective in terms of weight containment. This solution, in fact, enables a total weight reduction of 500g compared to a similar pair of spoked rims, and combined with the adoption of the aluminium disc flange, offers the wheel particularly low inertia at the front, which provides the front end with the high accuracy typical of Ducati sports models.

The tyres are new Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV in sizes 120/70 ZR 17 at the front and 160/60 at the rear, which enhance the dynamic qualities of the new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike.

Brakes

The front braking system relies on a solo 330mm disc, the same diameter used on the Ducati Panigale V4, the current standard for supersport bikes, designed explicitly by Brembo for the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike. An all-new M4.32 four-piston radial calliper works on the disc, controlled by a Brembo 15/19 pump, also radial.

At the rear, the system features a single 240 mm disc with a specific design, on which a floating calliper operates.

Electronics

The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike comes with an electronic package unmatched in the segment for completeness, authenticity and sophistication. Ducati specialists have developed unprecedented strategies and calibrations for DWC, ABS, and EBC, specifically designed to amplify riding pleasure and support expert riders in typical supermotard riding, enabling them to make the most of their performance when riding on the track. At the same time, the electronic suite of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike is a precious training tool that allows less experienced riders to acquire familiarity and ability in motard techniques in total safety.

The electronic package uses the Bosch six-axis inertial platform (IMU), which instantly detects the yaw, roll and pitch angle of the new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike. The supported features are ABS Cornering (with two different levels of functionality for slide-by-brake, Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Power Launch (DPL) and Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up/Down. The settings are associated with four different riding modes (Sport, Road, Urban and Wet), which the preferences and needs of the rider can naturally customize.

Power Modes

The delivery and peak power expressed by the Superquadro Mono engine are managed through three different power modes,

  • High Power Mode: maximum power is 77.5hp at 9,750rpm, and the throttle response is direct and dynamic. It is designed specifically for use on the track.
  • Mid Power Mode: maximum power remains 77.5hp at 9,750rpm, but the response to control is smooth and progressive. It is designed especially for use on the Road.
  • Low Power Mode: explicitly designed for low-grip surfaces, it offers a peak power reduced to 58.5hp (43 kW) at 9,500rpm, and the response is exceptionally smooth.

ABS Cornering with slide-by-brake

The new 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike is the first Ducati equipped with ABS Cornering with four different levels, of which two (2 and 3, respectively) are reserved for use on the race circuit and characterized by different calibrations for slide-by-brake functionality. This function is fundamental in supermoto riding, where a powerslide entering a corner, triggered and managed through the rear brake, becomes a manoeuvre that can be carried out safely even by those who do not have the experience and ability necessary to manage it without the help of electronics. It is the first motard to introduce the control with this functionality, optimized for use with the EBC 1 engine brake control setting.

Level-4 offers safe and stable behaviour and is linked by default with the Road, urban, and Wet riding modes. It guarantees secure and stable braking under all conditions, keeping the rear wheel lift under control during more pronounced decelerations.

Level-3 is linked with the Sport riding mode. It intervenes on both the front and rear axles without moderating lift-up. It introduces the slide-by-brake functionality at the rear, at a level suitable for those without motard riding experience. The permitted drift angle is, in fact, easy to manage, and it never puts the rider in difficulty, safely educating him in the drift technique of riding on the track. The Cornering function remains active on the front wheel.

Level-2 is explicitly designed to support expert riders on the track, enabling them to enter corners while powersliding with less psychological effort. The yaw angle managed is greater, and up to 50 degrees of roll is allowed, thus enabling the rider to take the slide right into the curve while always counting on predictable and repeatable behaviour. The Cornering function remains active only on the front wheel.

Level-1 is reserved for very expert riders who want to exploit the peak performance of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike on the track. The ABS intervenes only on the front wheel, without engaging Cornering functionality, leaving the more expert riders with complete management of the powerslide when entering corners.

ABS levels 2 and 1 are not associated with any riding mode by default, but must be selected through the ABS menu.

EBC (Engine Brake Control)

The EBC (Engine brake management) system is derived from the one developed by Ducati for racing competitions. It allows the rider to choose the intensity of the engine braking applied by the rear wheel when the throttle is closed. The EBC system gives three levels of intervention.

DTC (Ducati Traction Control)

Considering the lean angle, the DTC manages rear wheel grip loss by integrating data from the wheel speed sensors and the inertial platform. Therefore, the DTC can control rear wheel slip, improving the motorcycle’s performance and active safety. On the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike, the DTC offers four different levels of intervention.

Level 4 is reserved for wet surfaces, while levels 3 and 2 are suitable for road riding. Given the high mechanical grip of the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike, the strategies are mainly calibrated to manage any sudden losses of grip. Level-1, not associated by default with any riding mode, is designed for use on the track.

Riding Modes

On the 2024 Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Adventure Bike, the above electronic controls are integrated into four Riding Modes: Sport, Urban, Road, and Wet.

Sport Riding Mode is dedicated to track use with high-grip surfaces. The associated default Power Mode is High, with peak power of 77.5hp, dynamic engine response to throttle control and low intervention by the DTC system (level 2). The ABS is set to level 3, while the DWC is set to level 2, which enhances sporty riding. Engine Brake Control (EBC) is set to level 1.

Road Riding Mode is designed specifically for sporty road riding. In the default configuration, it is linked with Mid Power Mode, with a peak power of 77.5hp and smooth throttle response. ABS is set to level-4, DWC to level-3, DTC to level-3, and EBC to level-2.

Urban Riding Mode is designed for use on city streets, where grip may not be optimal. In this case, the default is Mid Power Mode, but the associated calibrations of the electronic controls are designed from a safety perspective. The DTC and DWC are, in fact, set to level-3, and the ABS to level-4, with greater braking stability and rear lift control. Engine braking (EBC) is at level 2.

Wet Riding Mode is dedicated to the slippery surfaces, i.e. in case of rain. With the Low Power Mode, associated by default, the power of the Superquadro Mono is limited to 43kW/58hp, with a notably softened response of the RbW when opening the throttle, an even more significant intervention of the DTC and DWC systems, calibrated to level-4. The ABS is calibrated at level 4, and the EBC engine braking management is at level 3.

Dashboard

With an LED display, the dashboard is designed to offer greater lightness and compactness (133mm x 56mm) with a horizontal form factor, objectives that cannot be achieved using a standard TFT panel. It results in instrumentation perfectly integrated inside the number plate, obtaining a slim and minimalist front view typical of racing supermotards.

The 3.8-inch LCD, developed explicitly for Ducati, is based on IBN (Improved Black Nematic) technology with white characters on a black background, for greater visibility in all conditions, and anti-scratch surface treatment. As on the Ducati Panigale V4, a green LED on the external frame indicates the ideal moment for changing gear, while the red one indicates the intervention of the limiter.

Despite its compact size, the display is full of information, showing a bar tachometer, speed, gear engaged and selected riding mode. The layout also features the icons of the Ducati Multimedia System, available as a Ducati Performance accessory that allows you to connect the motorcycle with your smartphone and manage its most critical multimedia functions in addition to those available with the Ducati Link App.
