The Kawasaki 2021 Z900RS Urban Bike is a tribute to the famous Kawasaki Z1, the first inline four-cylinder hot rod motorcycle. It comes with Kawasaki’s state-of-the-art electronic rider support technology, LED lighting, suspension, and digital equipment, as well as old-fashioned Z1 style and engine management.
The Kawasaki 2021 Z900RS Urban Bike uses timeless design features with nominal bodywork and no firing for clean retro styling, restoring the popular style of the original Kawasaki Z1 900 motorcycle. A powerful 948cc engine and new technology make the Kawasaki Z900RS ABS series ready for the traditional but modern ride.

Engine
The engine is based on the Kawasaki 2021 Z900RS Urban Bike but has been redesigned to offer it a different character. While the Kawasaki Z900 engine’s crisp, quick-revolving character favors high rpm operation, the Kawasaki Z900RS is modified for low to mid-range power, delivering sufficient torque to maintain all skill-level riders in control. The engine pulls the Kawasaki Z900 below 7,000 rpm.
Cam profiles with a low intake (270 – 248 rpm) and exhaust (256 – 244 rpm) emphasize engine performance in the common to medium rpm band. The engine is exceptionally manageable due to its smooth and robust response.
To reimburse for the short-term valve opening, the overall compression ratio on the Kawasaki Z900 has been decreased from 11.8: 1 to 10: 8. An ultimate smooth quality of the Kawasaki Z900RS is due to the crankshaft, including slightly higher flywheel mass than the Kawasaki Z900. An open deck design of the diecast cylinder block aids in saving weight while maintaining rigidity.
Connecting tunnels between cylinders recover high rpm efficiency by reducing pumping losses. The new pistons are made using the same proprietary casting method found in the Ninja H2 / H2R. This method delivers hollow sections to achieve maximum thickness for weight loss.
Digital Fuel Injection (KP)
The overall mid-range responsiveness of 36mm throttle bodies is optimal. The ECU controls sub-throttle valves, which are situated behind the main throttle valves, to guarantee a charming and responsive throttle response in the EFI system.
Exhaust System
Widespread sound research was done to create the best exhaust note, highlighting engine sound at startup, stop, and low speeds, where the rider can best enjoy the deep sound of the exhaust.
Double-walled headers make the pipe exhaust strong and prevent heat dissipation. The tiny megaphone muffler on the 4-Int-1 exhaust improves the classic look and the exhaust note. The exhaust system is made of high-quality stainless steel, which is triple polished for a beautiful shine.
Assist and Slipper Clutch (KP)
The clutch can be easily pressed together during acceleration (Assist function) using the spinning forces of the clutch hub and pressure plate, letting the use of low and nimble clutch springs for a lenient feeling on the lever.
Kawasaki Traction Control System (KTRC) (KP) (2-MODE)
2-mode technology improves sports riding performance and confidence, allowing for smoother riding in intelligent conditions. The operator can also shut the system down.
Mode 1 has advanced programming that allows a small amount of wheel slip to maximize speed. To get a precise picture of what’s happening, the system monitors multiple metrics, including front and rear wheel speeds, as well as various engine, machine, and rider input data.
Trellis Frame
The new trail frame was built using Kawasaki’s advanced analysis technologies to allow compact tier drop fuel tanks and provide retro-style handling, ideal for a more comfortable ride at a more regulated speed. The Z900RS has a neutral, or even, position, as opposed to the Z900’s aggressive, forward-leaning currency. It is done by increasing the front and lowering the back. The suspension settings were adjusted for a higher level of comfort and a more comfortable riding experience.
The triple upper clamp increases the steering offset by 6 mm (28 to 34mm on the Z900), which helps eliminate the trail and contributes to lighter handling.
Inverted Front Fork
The 41mm inverted front fork aids in excellent ride comfort and sporty riding ability. Thanks to the 10-way compression and 12-way rebound damping adjustment, fine-tuning is possible according to ride tastes and riding style.
Horizontal Back-link Rear Suspension (KP)
Equipped with Kawasaki’s state-of-the-art suspension technology to enhance sporty riding capabilities and complement the front fork ride comfort and sporty performance.
For ultimate mass distribution and to keep the let-down shock absorber away from the exhaust, the linkage is located on top of the swing arm, which is not affected by the exhaust heat. Both the rebound and preload damping are adjusted to the shock.
Brakes
The new dual 300 mm front discs are held in place by dual anti-piston monoblock calipers, which create a solid sensation upon first contact, resulting in excellent braking performance. To enhance the high-quality, sporty appearance, the machine monoblock calipers have an alumite coating and laser-engraved Kawasaki mark. The radial-pump further contributes to the excellent control and feel of the master cylinder calipers.
Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) (KP)
ABS contributes to a higher level of comfort brake performance.
Wheels & Tires
Flat spokes on cast wheels resemble traditional wire wheels. These wheels, made using Kawasaki’s advanced analysis technology, offer a combination of lightweight and attractive shapes, helping with handling and the older Z1 style. Machining on spokes and rim edges helps to shape the bike into a high-quality look in selected colors.
Distinctive Z Styling
The Z900RS delivers everlasting elegance with exceptional attention to detail and excellent fit and finish, thanks to a smooth blend of Z1-inspired aesthetic elements and modern artistry – from the famous teardrop fuel tank to the unique oval LED taillights. The gasoline tank Z1 inspires the favorite teardrop shape in the middle, and the frame was designed to accommodate the ultimate position and slim profile of the tank.
Involvement graphics on the Candy Tone Brown model accompany the rich paint on the tank, resulting in an attractive design that does not leave the top surface ensuing in a high-quality finish. The massive 4.5-gallon fuel tank extends to the bottom of the side cover, that maintains the compact profile of the tank while offering more tank volume to increase the cruising range.
