The new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is the lightest and most powerful production crossover motorcycle worldwide. Nothing less. It is an M model through and through. It has been reduced in weight for maximum performance – in this case, performance over long distances. That is why it is called the M XR. Or, as it is also named: MaXimizeR. This motorcycle maximizes everything: your riding enjoyment, your endurance and, whenever you wish, your adrenaline. At the same time, you can relax with confidence while travelling long stretches. After all, you know you can leave anyone behind at any moment.
The new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is the long-distance sports motorcycle created to satisfy the highest expectations, from spirited riding on country roads to extended touring and even racing.
At the end of 2018, BMW Motorrad launched the successful M model strategy for motorcycles and has since offered M special equipment and M Performance Parts. An all-new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is the third M motorcycle from BMW Motorrad to make its world debut, following the BMW M 1000 RR superbike and the dynamic BMW M 1000 R roadster: the long-distance sports bike M 1000 XR.
In BMW Motorrad’s centenary year, the dynamic philosophy of the world’s most powerful letter also extends to the new M XR. The letter M stands globally for racing victories and the appeal of high-performance BMW models. It also addresses customers with exceptionally high expectations for performance, exclusivity, and individuality.
With an output of 148kW (201hp), a DIN empty weight of just 223 kg, and suspension technology and aerodynamics engineered equally for high-performance country road riding, extended journeys, and fast track laps, the new M XR, as the lightest member of this crossover category, delivers dynamic riding dimensions formerly reserved for pure superbikes.
2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle – Features
M + XR = long-distance performance
This is the formula for an unmatched experience combining M-level performance with XR-level long-distance ability. Thanks to excellent ergonomics and the Pro and RACE riding modes, you will not want to get off the motorcycle. Everything is present, not only in the equipment. The 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is very versatile with its capability for sport, touring and carrying a passenger. Its weight can be reduced even further with the optional M Competition Package so that you ride with maximum agility.
Brute force in your hands
When you climb on, you are reminded that the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle can propel you at over 275 km/h. It accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.2 seconds to 200 in 7.4 seconds. This performance is enabled by the BMW ShiftCam four-cylinder engine of the RR adapted for the XR, with 201 hp (147 kW) at a maximum engine speed of 14,600 rpm. Combined with the sports gearbox with shorter ratios in 4th, 5th and 6th gears and a shorter secondary ratio, the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is optimized for performance-oriented long-distance rides. It allows you to take the lead whenever you choose.
Unmistakable M
Performance appears in three colours: light blue, dark blue and red. The typical M colour scheme gives the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle a distinctive appearance. In the rare moments it stands still, you can observe the devotion to motorsport not only in the colours but in numerous details.
The measure of all things
Every detail creates perfection. No millimetre has been overlooked. The design establishes sporty benchmarks with elaborate M paintwork and exclusive components such as the milled M clutch and M brake lever. The shorter tinted sports windscreen indicates that this motorcycle originates from the M Motorsport tradition.
Leadership par excellence
Are you ready? Sit down, start the engine and immerse yourself in the M world. Behind you lies the narrow performance-oriented rear with a short number plate holder. From this point, you leave everything behind. You lead. You hear the unique sound issuing from the steep Akrapovič slip-on rear silencer. Your passenger also shares the whole M experience thanks to the passenger seat contour, slim grab handles and rear footrest bracket.
Powerful 4-cylinder based on the RR engine
It delivers even more peak power, higher torque, and more vigorous thrust and traction due to shorter secondary and gear ratios, which makes it ideal for ultimate enjoyment on country roads and race tracks. The 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle incorporates a revised water-cooled four-cylinder in-line engine derived from the S 1000 RR. Its peak output is 148kW (201hp) at 12,750rpm, 23kW (31hp) more than in the new S 1000 XR. The maximum torque of 113 Nm occurs at 11,000 rpm.
The 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle revs to 14,600 rpm. A shorter secondary gear ratio produces increased rear-wheel pulling force in all gears through a sprocket with 47 teeth instead of 45. In addition, the 4th, 5th and 6th gears now have shorter ratios than the S 1000 XR, further improving rear-wheel traction, acceleration and pulling power.
M winglets and wind deflectors
You can brake later, reduce wheelies and accelerate sooner thanks to aerodynamic downforce. In addition to the suspension and drive suspension technology, aerodynamics was a significant focus during the M XR’s development. The new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle carries winglets on the front side panels to achieve even quicker lap times on the track and the best possible stability at high speeds. Starting at about 100 km/h they raise the front-wheel load through generated aerodynamic downforce, which increases by roughly 12 kg at 220 km/h.
Chassis trimmed for performance-oriented riding
It is ideal for country roads and race tracks including Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), adjustable steering damper, adjustable spring base, milled-over handlebar clamp and a more front-oriented tubular handlebar bearing laser-etched “BMW M XR” lettering. The suspension and chassis of the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle derive from the BMW S 1000 XR with the aluminium bridge frame at the core.
The 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle features upside-down forks with a 45mm slide tube diameter at the front. These forks contain closed cartridge inserts with separate hydraulic piston-cylinder systems. Another innovation on the M XR is the additional adjustability of the fork’s spring base and the standard Dynamic Damping Control suspension strut.
Furthermore, the forks of the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle include an upper fork bridge with a finely milled-over handlebar clamp plus a more front-oriented black aluminium tubular handlebar including lasered “BMW M 1000 XR” marking. Handlebar-end mirrors are also new on the M XR and are available as an option from the factory. The fork legs have been redesigned to accept the new M brake callipers. An adjustable steering damper is also a new feature of the M XR.
M brakes including radial hand brake pump and lightweight forged aluminium wheels
These components provide optimum dynamics on the race track and in performance mode. Exclusive M Carbon wheels are offered as part of the M Competition Package or separately. Following the M 1000 RR and the M 1000 R, the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle becomes the third BMW motorcycle to employ an M brake. It was developed directly from the racing brakes used on BMW Motorrad factory machines in the Superbike World Championship. The M brake callipers have a blue anodized finish paired with the renowned M logo.
Together with two 320mm brake discs of 5 mm thickness and black anodized aluminium disc carriers, the braking system with a new radial hand brake pump currently represents the peak of brake development for road-legal setups. The new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle already comes with very lightweight forged aluminium wheels as standard. The exclusive M Carbon wheels are supplied with newly designed rim tapes as part of the M Competition Package.
Brake Slide Assist
This Brake Slide Assist function is an essential and beneficial innovation, especially for track riders. The rider can drift under braking into corners with a controlled slide.
Instrument cluster
It features a perfectly legible 6.5-inch TFT display, a new presentation of the rev counter’s red zone and an OBD interface for the M GPS Datalogger and the M GPS Laptrigger that can be activated via unlock code. The instrument cluster of the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle mirrors the M RR design and displays the M start-up animation. An all-new extended display of the red speed range is the new and attractive feature. As an optional item, comprehensive data for the M GPS Laptrigger and M GPS Datalogger (Original BMW Motorrad Accessories) can be supplied by unlock code through the instrument cluster’s OBD interface.
M Design and an all-new dynamic design of the M XR signal pure performance and sportiness
More than the S 1000 XR, the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle with its optimized chassis and the most powerful engine yet in a dynamic long-distance sports motorcycle from BMW Motorrad is uncompromisingly aimed at sporty riding on country roads, extended tours or the race track. The M XR is no better performing and lighter in this crossover segment. Its proportions are ultra-compact and muscular.
Three-dimensional surfaces generate excitement and a dynamic appearance. Slim, low and very aggressive, the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle’s front end is unmistakable with its brand-new M winglets designed as quadruple wings. The performance-oriented character of the latest 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle is also emphasized by its colour scheme, with the body in Black combined with the M colours Light Blue, Dark Blue and Red.
Uncompromising Design and Technology
Suppose the new M XR in standard form still does not satisfy you. The M Competition Package presents an impressive combination of refined elements for racing-technology enthusiasts and style-oriented riders alike. It also reduces the weight of the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Sports Motorcycle by another 3 kg.
The M Competition Package includes M Carbon wheels, M Carbon components such as rear wheel cover with integrated chain guard, side panels, front wheel cover, inner cover and ignition/steering lock cover, as well as a fully adjustable M rider footrest system, passenger footrests and the MGPS Laptrigger (unlock code).
