BMW Motorrad proudly presents the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle, revealing an early look at the newest member of the M lineup.
“With the M 1000 XR prototype, we offer an initial preview of the third BMW Motorrad M model in our anniversary year. We have created the M 1000 XR, derived from the current BMW S 1000 XR, BMW S 1000 RR and BMW M 1000 RR, as a long-distance sportbike that delivers supersport riding dynamics both on the road and on the track,” explained Dominik Blass, Product Manager.
For over fifty years, the letter M has stood for racing success worldwide and for high-performance BMW road models aimed at customers with high-performance, exclusivity and individuality standards. BMW Motorrad applied this proven M approach to motorcycles in 2019 when it began offering M special equipment and M Performance equipment for existing models. The BMW M 1000 RR and the BMW M 1000 R, the first two stand-alone M motorcycles from BMW Motorrad, debuted in 2020 and 2022, respectively.
2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle – Features and Specs
In-line four-cylinder engines with BMW ShiftCam technology and low weight deliver the highest performance in the segment.
The four-cylinder engine taken from the BMW S 1000 RR supersport motorcycle and featuring BMW ShiftCam technology for variable timing and valve lift serves as the basis. With engine output exceeding 200 horsepower, a fueled DIN weight of only 492 pounds, and chassis design, aerodynamics, and electronic controls optimised equally for high-performance road use, long-distance touring and rapid track laps, the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle creates dynamic riding possibilities as a crossover motorcycle in the sports segment once reserved for pure superbikes.
Additional weight reduction and even sharper riding dynamics can be achieved through the optional M Competition Package. The 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle reaches a top speed of about 174 miles per hour.

M winglets: Greater stability, low wheelie tendency and better acceleration, thanks to improved aerodynamic downforce
Alongside powertrain and suspension, aerodynamics also received significant attention in developing the 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle. The motorcycle incorporates winglets designed to provide superior stability at high speeds despite its increased power.

These winglets help maintain optimum contact between the tyres and the road surface, especially under acceleration. The added load on the front wheel counters the natural tendency to lift during acceleration, so traction control intervenes less, and more drive force is transformed into forward movement. The forward-leaning riding posture also improves bike control, particularly in supersport settings.
M brakes for ultimate braking performance in track and performance mode
Like the BMW M 1000 RR and the BMW M 1000 R, the new 2024 BMW M 1000 XR Prototype Adventure Motorcycle uses M brakes. These brakes were developed from experience gained with racing components on BMW Motorrad’s factory superbike machines. The M brake callipers display a blue anodised finish with the renowned M logo.
