2022 Suzuki RM-Z450 Motocross – Features and Specs
The latest version of Suzuki’s fuel-injected engine is a 449cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve, double overhead cam (DOHC) four-stroke. Because of its high peak horsepower and substantial torque at lower engine speeds, the engine offers excellent throttle response throughout the whole rpm range.
Because of the cylinder head intake port shape, much tumble flow is generated, contributing to higher power output. The large, straight opening of the air cleaner helps to channel air more efficiently to the throttle body, where it may be used to boost acceleration.
Suzuki’s state-of-the-art fuel injection technology results in a linear power curve, excellent gas mileage, and rock-solid reliability. The RM-Z450 has a sophisticated and efficient traction management system. To optimize engine power and traction under varying riding conditions, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) constantly analyzes the throttle position, engine speed, and gear.
Initially designed for the Suzuki factory racing bike, the Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is now fully adjustable to help riders get a head start. A rider’s starting conditions and expertise determine which of the three launch methods is best for them. There are three phases to both Mode A and Mode B of the S-HAC system. It helps riders get a head start, breeze through the gates, and quickly reach peak speed. For optimal assistance of the rider’s throttle control during launches, the RM-S-HAC Z450’s Mode parameters have been fine-tuned.
At the starting line, or when the weather is wet and slippery, use Mode A. With this setting, S-HAC adjusts its ignition timing to stop the tire from sliding during liftoff and retain the ride over the gate as smoothly as possible. An ignition timing is also accelerated during this time for better thrust.
Pros of Using Method a, when riding in extreme or slippery traction conditions, especially with new riders, switch to Mode A for a more controlled launch. Activate Mode B for a more robust launch in response to increased traction at the starting line. With S-HAC, the ignition timing can be quickly advanced for better acceleration off the line and faster throttle response. Ignition timing alternation follows the same pattern as Mode A, although for a longer total duration. The mechanism will return the ignition to its normal state if any of the following three things happen first: When the gas pedal is depressed for six seconds or when the gear selector is moved into fourth. Then it turns off and goes back to the standard ignition delay.
The five-speed gearbox is neatly constructed, which permits precise gear shifting—the smooth and accurate shift sensation results from a well-machined shift cam that allows optimal gear selection. Specialized machining procedures further refine the precision of the mating gears.
The multi-plate wet clutch relies on the rack-and-pinion release mechanism to give the rider an accurate feel for the clutch’s engagement and disengagement points.

Suzuki’s RM-twin-spar Z450 continues the company’s tradition of providing the best-handling motocross motorcycles with its twin-beam swing arm and frame. By combining cast and extruded parts, this twin-spar aluminum alloy frame achieves a perfect balance between lightweight and high strength.
Z450’s frame is 700 grams (1.32 pounds) lighter than the RM-predecessor, improving the bike’s stability, shock absorption, and cornering performance. The swing arm is made of lightweight materials for improved cornering performance and stable handling. Since the frame head pipe is mounted low and the wheelbase is small, the vehicle responds quickly and maneuvers with dexterity.
Hexagonal aluminum rails are used in the sub-frame to save weight, improve aesthetics, and facilitate the replacement of the air filter.
The bodywork is slimmer, and the sub-frame rails are routed higher to accommodate the giant air cleaner and the state-of-the-art BFRC shock absorber. The compact bodywork of the RM-Z450 provides the rider with a similar degree of freedom of movement to that of the trim sub-frame. It is of paramount importance while cycling with some pep in your step.
The RM-Showa Z450’s BFRC shock absorber was inspired by the highly developed suspension of the GSX-R1000R Superbike. The BFRC has a distinct external damping circuit that improves the responsiveness of damping force, resulting in superior grip and shock absorption over bumps.
Handling at higher speeds is enhanced, and ride comfort is increased thanks to the fully-adjustable BFRC’s management of damping during minute suspension movements. Showa’s front coil fork has larger inner tubes and rod pipes for durability.
Each fork leg has a large, adjustable dampening cylinder and spring that work together to enhance the bike’s responsiveness to the terrain and the rider’s feeling of control over it. When riding often, it’s helpful to have a front suspension that is easy to adjust and maintain.
The Renthal aluminum tapered handlebar is more robust than its predecessor and has a flatter profile, making it more comfortable for the rider to grip during rapid steering. The Showa coil spring handlebars and front suspension perfectly match the featherweight upper fork bracket.
For powerful stopping power and feel, the front brakes use a massive 270mm wave-style rotor and twin-piston caliper. The thin design of the rear brake master cylinder that rests against the frame beam protects it from dirt, and the rider’s boot should it accidentally come into touch with it.
The RM-Z450 is equipped with race-specific Bridgestone Battle cross X30 tires that enhance the bike’s speed, stopping distance, and handling.
The black anodized rims on the wheels are cross-sectionally engineered to be strong while reducing unsprung weight. The upswept tail and sharper front fender from the Suzuki beak design are meant to evoke a sense of speed without sacrificing fuel efficiency or ease of maintenance.
